1. How to install a simple elastomer profile?
Ideal for profiles to be inserted into a groove or mechanically fixed.
Preparation & tools
- The Prodex profile suitable for your surface,
- A precision cutter or sealant cutter, a smoothing roller,
- A clean cloth, soapy water and a degreaser.
Installation steps
- Cleaning the surface: The groove or receiving surface must be perfectly clean, dry and free of old sealant residue.
- Measure and cut: Measure the required length and cut it with a cutter or cutting pliers.
- Insertion: Start at the corners. Insert the seal by pressing it lightly towards the centre rather than stretching it.
- Check: Make sure that the seal is perfectly seated in its groove without any ripples so that it is properly sealed.
Prodex tip: To make insertion into a narrow groove easier, you can lightly moisten the seal with clean water or soapy water (check the compatibility of the material beforehand) or request the application of a lubricant when ordering.
2. How to apply an adhesive elastomer profile?
Optimise the adhesion of your adhesive joints for permanent fixing.
The golden rule: surface preparation
Adhesive will not stick to a dusty or greasy surface. 80% of successful installation depends on preparation.
Installation steps:
- Complete degreasing: clean the surface with a non-greasy solvent. Allow to dry completely.
- Application temperature for adhesive joints: for optimal effectiveness, apply the joint in an environment between 15°C and 25°C.
- Gradual application:
- Remove the protective film (liner) over 10-20 cm.
- Position the joint without applying tension (do not pull on it!).
- Apply firm, even pressure along the entire length: pressure of 1 kg/cm².
- Curing time: maximum adhesion is generally achieved after 24 to 48 hours. Avoid putting strain on the joint immediately.
Prodex tip: if the surface is porous or uneven, consider applying an adhesive primer.
Expert advice for your profiles
| Problem | Prodex solution |
| The profile is coming loose at the ends. | Never stretch theprofile when installing it; it will always try to return to its original shape. |
| Waterproofing in corners | Use a 45° mitre cut for a perfect join. The joints can be welded in the workshop. |
| Storage of profiles | Keep your joints away from moisture before installation. |
